Hugger Mugger Bolster GIVEAWAY!!

Hi Everyone!  I’m SUPER excited to be giving away a Hugger Mugger standard bolster!!  I wish you could see how fidgety I am right now sitting in my office because of how over the moon I am about this opportunity.  I approached Hugger Mugger because I wanted to do a giveaway to celebrate the growth of my blog over the past months and to say THANK YOU for making this blog possible.  When I thought of what I wanted to give away, my brain shouted at me, “PROPS, SILLY!”  No really, it did.  I’m extra stoked to be working with Hugger Mugger because they make some of the sturdiest, best quality props in the business (and no, they did not pay me to say that).

If you follow my blog at all or have taken classes with me, you know that I LOVE yoga props!  Props have truly transformed my own practice and I use them so much in teaching that I often joke with students that I’m not happy until I’ve pulled out every single prop in the studio.  I’m also that teacher who sneaks into the neighboring classroom to *ahem* appropriate extra props for my class.  If you came over to my apartment you probably wouldn’t be surprised to see various props strewn about the living and bedroom as well.

Bolsters are especially awesome for a supportive practice and I use them in so  many asanas, including wheel, supta virasana, and supported sun salutation A.  If I had to choose a favorite use (don’t make me!), I’d have to go with using bolsters to learn how to safely transition from chaturanga dandasana to upward facing dog (see pictures below or go here to read the full post.)  I teach this version of the transition to all levels of students and find that it’s useful whether you’ve never tried chaturanga before or you’ve been doing it for years.  It’s a great example of using a bolster as a tool to find correct alignment and as a nice supportive boost in a pose that might not be accessible otherwise.

Now onto the important stuff!

The Goods: Hugger Mugger has graciously agreed to provide a standard yoga bolster in the color of his or her choice to the winner of this giveaway.*  Once a winner is drawn (using random.org’s random number generator), I will forward the winner’s info to Hugger Mugger and they will get in touch with you to find out your color choice.  This giveaway is open to US residents only.

The Rules:

1.  Leave a comment on this post telling me what you’d use your bolster for first when it arrives.  That pose you’ve tried over and over, but just need a little boost?  A yummy restorative practive?  Anything is possible!

2.  For an extra entry, follow Supportive Yoga on Facebook and/or Twitter and leave a separate comment telling me you’ve done so.

3.  For a third entry, follow Hugger Mugger on Facebook and/or Twitter and leave a third comment telling me you have done so.

Leaving separate comments for each action will ensure that I count each of your entries (limit three entries per person).  I’m sure there is a fancier way to do this, but this is my first rodeo, so please take pity on me!

The giveaway will be open for two weeks (i.e. until midnight on 5/28/13).  Once all the entries are in, I will randomly choose a winner and then announce it on the blog!

Thank you so  much for participating and for reading Supportive Yoga!  Please email me at annie@supportiveyoga.com with any questions!

UPDATE: Winner announced here!

*Hugger Mugger is providing the standard bolster free of charge.  I was not otherwise paid or perked for hosting this giveaway.

I’d use it for shoulder/chest-opening restorative poses, and then once my shoulders are a little more open, I’d use it for some wall support to help me get into handstand at the wall!

I LOVE what you do with the transition form chaturanga to down dog. I’m nearly 61 yrs old and just in the middle of working on my 200 ryt. My old shoulders take a beating every week in class but I’m going to start using a bolster from now on. You rock!

Just left a comment about how I’d use the bolster–supported backbends and chest openers, under a hip in pigeon, under my knees in savasana to open up my lower back a bit…but I think my comment must have been eaten. Hope this isn’t a repeat!

  26. I am working on two poses: plow and shoulder stand. I am not sure that a bolster can help with these positions, but I saw a supported child’s pose (to help cleanse the adrenals) that would be perfect for me!!!

I am very new to yoga, and the supported bridge pose is something I really enjoy after a long day at work. I think the official name for the pose is Salamba Setu Bandhasana. So far I’ve been using rolled towels but they don’t quite “bridge” or “support” :).

  34. elenavo says:

I liked you on Facebook as Elena Vo.
