Welcome to Supportive Yoga with Annie Carlin!
I want to:
– Show you how to make the yoga practice work for you, with the body you have now, and do amazing things on the mat.
– Let you know that yoga is for anybody who is willing to give it a try – yes even you!
– Teach you how to modify any asana for your body.
– Help you build strength, endurance, flexibility and confidence that you can take off the mat and into the world.
Supportive Yoga is now in Brooklyn!
I teach Maha Yoga at Abhaya Yoga in DUMBO, Brooklyn on Thursdays at 8:15pm. ย This class is geared toward anyone with a round, large or curvy body, or who is working with an injury or any other challenges, or someone who prefers a slower pace and creative modifications to ensure optimal alignment and ease in asanas. ย I’d love to see you there!!

I have the best photographer!
I am a Yoga instructor of a larger size, and looking at your photos absolutely amaze me. I am so thankful for the internet because without it, I felt as though I was all alone in this Yogic world. You are beautiful, and I wish you all the best!!!
Thank you so much for your kind words!
Keep it up! I do agree you have a great photographer but a great photographer needs a GREAT person who poses to get the shots =)
On my blog, PranaJournal.com, I gave a link to the WashPost story and your website. I appreciate your efforts.
Thank you!
For the first time, I’m not afraid to try yoga! I’m so overweight that I feel so vulnerable just thinking about moving my body. Not anymore!! Thank you for this!
That’s wonderful, Debbie! Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help you on your journey!!
I wish there were instructors like you on the backs of yoga magazines selling product instead of the usual thin white girls in down dog (no offense–I’m black.) I’m a plus size woman and I’ve been doing Anusara yoga for 10 years and see the benefits of a consistent yoga practice!! You go girl!! Seriously I’m not ready to do a lot of inversions like you’re doing (L pose at the wall is enough for me for the time being!) Recently I’ve found a plus size yoga class in L.A. where I live–do you realize I had to search and search for this class and I just happened to find it by accident (seriously–in this town of hip hop yoga, acro yoga and whatever yoga you can invent!) I would love to teach Anusara yoga and give classes for fun and for free! Thanks so much for listening and inspiring me to stay on the mat!
Thank you so much for your kind words! So glad you’ve found a class you like. Maybe it’s time to think about teacher training??? ๐
Thanks so much for your blog and these resources. I came to the internet searching for just this information after another yoga class where I felt defeated, and a freak when my arms can’t cross over my boobs for eagle pose. A tear might have been shed in frustration during shavasana, not how I want to end a class. No mater how much I told myself how strong I felt in warrior pose, or how beautiful my cobra is, when I can’t do a pose the ‘traditional ‘ way, I feel awful. I have hope now and will visit often!
Thank you so much! I’m so happy you’ve found my posts useful! Everyone’s bodies do poses differently – and awesomely! I hope you find a teacher in your area that you love and that supports your practice as it is. ๐
It just might be…got a lot to juggle though! ๐
